Abelia's up-cycled pieces

Lucinda has put a lot of time into creating her pieces for Abelia and they are not only beautiful to look at but are also incredibly considered.

The term up cycling is still relatively new and it gives a whole new dimension to the meaning when we talk about waste materials, unlike recycling where it’s typically noted as breaking down materials. Recycling is then creating something new which can often end up actually using more energy than we think. Although this is not to say that recycling isn’t good as it’s still a benefit to nature and it’s sources.

However this blog is to really showcase Abelia’s vases and the benefits of upcycling, Lucinda has really taken the idea into her own hands. The thing about upcycling is that it can take a lot of time, preparation and practice. Lucinda hand collects the vases from local secondhand stores along with the other small trinkets she places onto the vases, she also spends time collecting from surrounding beaches.

Interestingly I found this statistic from earthhero.com - ‘For every ton of tossed textiles that get upcycled, 20 tons of CO2 is prevented from entering the atmosphere’ what Lucinda expresses in her own use of time is embodied in the impact she’s making for the environment

I love how we have Abelia and Never New stocked here at Simple Studios, small brands really do put a lot more love into their creations. Find Lucinda's work on instagram here
