ENTRY THIRTY ONE: Progress

Two orders this week! I also felt a lot more on top of things too, I had a mentoring session Monday night with my past kaiako from the business diploma I did last year. Just talking things through with someone who has been successful in the e-commerce space is beyond helpful. We set a goal for the next session to have some business planning in place. Simple stuff - 3 pages, 1 for goals and objectives, a year calendar of important dates and a budget. I ended up getting on a bit of a role and also added overarching goals, and a roadmap. It’s still incomplete at the moment but it’s the most clear I’ve felt with things in a wee while. I also learnt that in the past the goals I’ve set have been so focused on an uncontrollable outcome such as earning X amount by X date. The goal is still for Simple Prints to earn a full time income but now that’s an overarching goal and the sub goals to reach that are things that are in my control that’ll contribute to Simple Prints earning a full time income equivalent. Hopefully I’m making sense? So for example I know that posting on instagram consistently helps get me in front of more customers so a goal is to post 3 x per week. I’m rambling a bit now so I’ll get into this weeks entry! Oh lastly, I’ve put the Simple Studios Instagram account on hold. I shared that I’m growing a wee pēpi and I needed to get strict on where to focus my time so I decided to put it on hold and just focus on sharing with you here on the website and also communicating through email. So please please email me if you want to chat - sam@simplestudios.nz. Let’s start!

What I Did:

Monday: Drawing challenge, confirmed thank you cards, made voiceover and posted reel, prepared and posted baby announcement

Tuesday: Set up UK shipping and NZ free shipping on orders over $100, also sent a discount to the previous customers who did a google review for me

Wednesday: Business planning, Instagram post creation and posting the post****

Thursday: Customer orders

Friday: Finished off orders, sent previews to customers and created and posted Instagram post, worked on an influencer print, profit first payouts and business planning

What I Learnt:

Nothing again. I really enjoy Mimi’s video - Planning My Art Business Goals + 3 Tips for Goal Setting. I realised what I noted above. I was setting goals that were out of my control. Highly recommend you give this video a watch!

What I Spent:

Costs are all in NZD and are from the week just been. 19 - 25 February, 2024

  • Profit Hold - $20.15

  • Tax Hold - $100.73

  • Wages - $335.77

  • Adobe Creative Cloud (Student Subscription) - $24.72

  • Influencer affiliate - $3.50

Total: $484.87

What I Earned:

  • Custom Illustration Orders - $373.06

Next weeks focus:

  • Drawing Challenge

  • Routine Structure/Business planning

  • International Womens day prep

So the structure thing will be forever evolving I think, I’ve started plugging most things into my calendar and then it’s just making sure to sit down and dedicate time to Simple Prints. Already from business planning I’m feeling like I have a bit more direction which is great

Have an amazing week! Lots of love, Sam
